Synopsis

Clutch is missing. 10,005 suspects. 21 evidence files. One case only the sharpest detective can crack.

Every year, the National Young Inventors Expo fills Hall B with robots, prototypes, and thousands of kids who spent a year building something.

This year, everyone is talking about Booth 114.

Clutch is a grip-assist glove that twelve-year-old Tessa Marino spent two years and forty-three prototypes building, so her little brother could hold a pencil, a spoon, a basketball. It high-fives back when you high-five it. The wrist servo squeaks, and Tessa won't fix the squeak, because Milo likes it.

Final judging is Friday at 9:00 a.m. At 6:58 Friday morning, Tessa reaches Booth 114 and the charging cradle is empty.

No alarm. No broken lock. No witness.

Security logs three things from the scene: a note left in the cradle with the ink smeared past reading, a left-hand glove print in the dust on the table, and a volunteer lanyard with a bent clip, caught under the table skirt.

Whoever took Clutch signed into this building. And the expo has a badge record for every person who walked through the doors...

Every one of them is a suspect. Somewhere on that list is the name the thief signed in under. And there are only 21 evidence files to find it.

Who Stole Clutch? is an interactive STEM detective mystery for kids ages 10–14, packed with logic puzzles, secret codes, brain teasers, whodunit twists, and escape room challenges.

This isn't a mystery kids simply read. They become the detective.

Open the case file. Decode the ciphers. Work the evidence. Cross off suspects by the hundreds. And keep going until one name is left standing.

INSIDE THE CASE:

  • All 10,005 suspects are printed in full, a real list built for clue-by-clue elimination.
  • The evidence files are worked in order. Every one is true, nothing misleads, and each cuts the list further.
  • Two clues arrive in code. A Caesar shift and a number code both have to be cracked before they can be used.
  • Some files clear whole groups at once, wiping out entire sign-in registries in a single stroke.
  • One file refuses to work alone and sends young detectives back to an earlier clue.
  • The logic puzzles and brain teasers demand real thinking, from deduction and pattern recognition to letter math and close reading.
  • A verification code lets readers check their answer without spoiling the ending.
  • The case has two answers. First the name on the badge, then the person who was carrying it.
  • Case log pages run throughout for theories, prime suspects and the final answer in ink.
  • Finding out who took Clutch is only half of it. Young detectives also find out why, and that is the part families end up talking about.

PERFECT FOR KIDS WHO LOVE:

Detective stories, mystery books, logic puzzles, brain teasers, whodunit mysteries, escape room puzzles, secret codes and ciphers, code breaking, science mysteries, STEM books, robotics and inventions, interactive books, and solving seemingly impossible cases.

It's a screen-free activity for kids ages 10–14 and a great choice for puzzle-loving kids, reluctant readers, gifted readers, young detectives, and STEM-curious kids who'd rather work a case than read about one.

Every badge in Hall B is on record. One glove is gone. Final judging starts at nine. And somewhere in those records, one name knows exactly what happened to Clutch.

Can your young detective work all 21 evidence files, eliminate 10,004 suspects, and find Clutch before the case goes cold?
