Children of the War Machine Book 1: Tricklighter is a Teen & Young Adult Epic Military Space Opera. It occurs in a universe marked by Prima-Altan supremacy, political and military intrigue among many other Altan worlds, and outlying planets like the setting of this novel. Its intricately crafted plot delves into the lives, minds, and trauma of the strong female lead Gwen (soldier Ten-Twenty), and Altan Starcon Junior Grade Amadicren Sardan the Second, known to his friends as Amad and to his enemies as the son of Sardan the First.

The book has a young adult dystopian feel at times. It has political intrigue and themes of colonization. From a military perspective, it includes melee warfare on planet, as well as psychological warfare both in space and on planet, and space travel with implied warfare in space on multiple fronts. It has some clean romantic elements and includes themes about interpersonal relationships of all types. The weaponized psychic and empathic powers of the protagonist create a world rich with both internal and external action.
