Synopsis

Among the stories in Consummation, a ghost hitchhikes his way to an abandoned drive-in, leading his host further into a desert and away from delivering a mysterious package. The excavated head of Medusa begins outing anyone who comes into contact with it in an apocalyptic America. A man finds redemption and answers to his failing relationship in an obsession with wearing bowls on his head. A young editor watches a mother feed her child to lions at a zoo and subsequently decides that witnessing the act brings her success in life. With a combination of absurdism and genre-crossing, these stories address disappearances, abandonment, childhood love triangles, and characters mutated by late-stage capitalism with all its shapeshifting environments.

In Consummation, Hamilton has nurtured a compelling collection of modern and often queer horror stories. Strands of satire, thriller, and science fiction twist together to form a fear that we would rather tuck away and not talk about. Consummation is a thoughtful gathering of tales that shine a spotlight on the devil in the room, whether that room be our hearts or the society we live within.
