In The 9 Cs, veteran screenwriter and teacher Ed Horowitz breaks down the essential elements of great screenwriting into a clear, practical system for writers at any level. Drawing on his experience in film, television, theater, and the classroom, Horowitz explains how to turn an idea into a compelling dramatic story through character, conflict, structure, dialogue, scenes, beatsheets, and rewriting. Written in plain, direct language, the book demystifies the craft without promising Hollywood shortcuts. With exercises, examples, and a glossary, The 9 Cs gives writers the tools to build stronger, smarter, more emotionally effective screenplays.

Ed Horowitz has an MFA in Playwriting from The UCLA School of Theater, Film, and Television. His parents never thought he'd actually put his advanced degree to any use until he sold a spec script that became the Warner Brother's movie On Deadly Groundstarring Steven Seagal and Michael Caine. Not a great movie, but the head of Warner Brother's Story Department at the time called it, "One of the best first drafts I've read." After selling several other scripts, Ed wrote K-9: P.I. starring Jim Belushi, the independent film Shark in a Bottle, and Exit Wounds, starring Steven Seagal and DMX. For two seasons Ed was the freelance writer on the USA hit television show La Femme Nikita. He has sold over a half-dozen one-hour television pilots to various networks. Ed has also written a full-length musical and had over 50 short plays produced. Ed has taught TV and Screenwriting at Chapman University, USC, UCLA, and the San Francisco Film School. In his spare time, he's an ASCAP songwriter. More about Ed can be found on IMDB.com and at his website writesmartblog.com.

Buch. Etat : Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - A screenplay is not the finished work. It is the blueprint for a movie, television show, stage play, or other dramatic story that must first come alive in the reader's imagination. In The 9 Cs, veteran screenwriter and educator Ed Horowitz offers a practical guide to making that happen.Horowitz draws on decades of professional experience in film, television, theater, and teaching to identify the core elements that make dramatic stories work. Rather than selling formulas or promises of instant success, he focuses on craft: how to shape a compelling story, build believable characters, create meaningful conflict, use structure, write effective scenes and dialogue, work with beatsheets, revise intelligently, and keep the reader turning pages.Designed for new writers, experienced writers, producers, teachers, and anyone trying to better understand story construction, The 9 Cs presents screenwriting as both art and discipline. Its chapters, exercises, appendix, and glossary give readers a working method for developing ideas into detailed outlines and rough drafts. Clear, direct, and grounded in practice, this book helps writers write smarter, more efficiently, and more effectively while developing the habits and judgment needed to improve their craft.
