Mara Altman is an award-winning journalist and author. During her children's first four years of life, "That's not food!" was her most common utterance. She loves eating edible things and is trying to pass that passion onto the next generation.
Altman has also authored two nonfiction books, Thanks for Coming and Gross Anatomy: Dispatches from the Front (and Back), which was a semi-finalist for the Thurber Prize for American Humor. Altman also wrote eight best-selling Kindle Singles and has written for publications such as The New York Times and New York Magazine. Earlier in her career, she was a staff writer for The Village Voice and daily newspapers in India and Thailand. She lives in San Diego with her husband and hungry twins.

Courtney Cook is a Chicago-based author and illustrator whose work has appeared in TIME, The Guardian, The Rumpus, and others. Her debut graphic memoir, The Way She Feels: My Life on the Borderline in Pictures and Pieces (Tin House, 2021), was a Book Riot Best Book of the Year and finalist for a Lambda Literary Award and Heartland Booksellers Award. In addition to That's Not Food!, Courtney has also illustrated Yay All Day: Good News Journal (Sasquatch Books, 2021). She lives in Chicago with her husband and their senior rescue cat, Bertie.
