Synopsis
In 1890, a NYC socialite was gazing out her brownstone window, and spied young girls, bent over, carrying babies that weren't their own. They were poorly dressed, ill fed, and clearly among the poorest of NYC's tenement poor. After making inquiries, she discovered that these poor girls were not being cared for by any of NYC's charities. They were unwittingly neglected and truly left on their own. This headstrong, wholehearted woman galvanized like-minded women and went on to create an organization that would help thousands and thousands of these Little Mothers over the decades.
This book captures the early years of this organization and the Little Mothers and their lives.
