Synopsis

"From 1913-1932, the Rosenwald Foundation (through the efforts of Julius Rosenwald and Booker T. Washington) funded over 5,300 schools for African-American children in the segregated Southern United States. These schools became vital community centers that significantly improved learning and literacy for Black students and a tangible symbol of equality. In The North Star - Julius Rosenwald's Impact Upon Black America, Dr. Charles A. Burton explores the life of Rosenwald and the outstanding black intellectuals who received Rosenwald Foundation grants and scholarships, including W.E.B. DuBois (the "Father of Social Science") and Ralph Bunche (who was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1950)."
