Synopsis

The elderly die in nursing homes. That’s a given. But sometimes they have help.

For two-thirds of his formative years, Kip Patterson lived in a privately owned nursing home, but at thirteen, he was sent away without explanation or warning. Fifteen years later, two weeks before Christmas, he’s called home to attend one more funeral and soon discovers an undercurrent of danger lingering within the labyrinth of ancient halls.

With an innate ability to read auras and judge when a resident becomes terminal, he’s determined to maintain his emotional distance from the current residents. The old regime has passed, his obligations fulfilled regarding his mother’s funeral, and he intends to depart when he receives the first letter from the deceased.

In self-preservation, Kip has developed an emotional shield, but his chilly armor cracks with the arrival of his single childhood friend, and the chasm widens with his attraction to JD’s little sister, Kelly. Unbeknownst to Kip, he was Kelly’s first—and only—case of puppy love, but there’s a problem. She’s engaged. As Kip struggles through a matrix of lies and deceit, searching for the truth behind a conspiracy that implicates him in murder, Kelly wages an internal war, wanting, needing to be the one Kip turns to in his sorrow.

No one is who they appear to be in this psychological suspense/murder mystery. And untangling the secrets within Whistlebrook Nursing Home could make one reconsider their end-of-life plan.

À propos de l'auteur

The influence of rural living radiates throughout J. K. Grueber's novels, as she was born and raised in a small town in Western Pennsylvania. Even though she lived within spitting distance of Pittsburgh, most of her escapades involved farm country and horses-a lifestyle she continues to embrace. Presently, she and her husband, Steve, live on a small horse farm in Northeast Ohio, where she tends to twenty-plus Quarter Horses and Thoroughbreds along with two Great Pyrenees, a dozen ducks, two dwarf goats, and a plethora of cats. She divides her time between writing paranormal mysteries (with a heavy dose of psychological suspense) and breeding, training, and racing Thoroughbreds. Find out more about J. K.
