This is a controversial book. It is controversial because it delves into the issue of child abuse. It is done in an age-appropriate way, but nonetheless, some parents might not think that this is an appropriate subject for a child. I disagree. In fact, I believe that because the topic of child abuse is such a taboo subject in most countries around the world, it continues to persist. And I believe that children, more than anyone else, need to be able to feel it is OK to talk about this issue and to understand how best to protect themselves. Yes, these conversations can be uncomfortable, but they don't have to be. And I believe that this book can help to provide opportunities for both parents and children to broach this sensitive subject in a safe and secure space.
In this twist on the classic fairy tale, the Pied Piper is transformed into a caring and compassionate hero...
On June 26th, 1284, a mysterious man walked into the sleepy village of Hamelin and changed it forever. The townsfolk called him a monster, but they hid a terrible secret they were ashamed to tell. In this retelling of the Pied Piper, the truth is finally revealed as to what actually happened on that fateful day and drove this musical minstrel to do the unthinkable. It wasn't out of vengeance or over a certain sum of gold. It was because of a crucially important promise that the people of this town failed to keep.
