Synopsis

The German Revolution: 1918-1919 is a near-contemporary account of the German Revolution that caused the Kaiser to abdicate, the German Empire to collapse, and barely stave off a communist revolution just as serious as the Russian Revolution.

The author witnessed many of the events firsthand, and had access to primary sources; he was stationed in Germany as part of the Hoover Relief efforts to stave off famine and starvation in Europe. He gives a very thorough, concise, and impartial account of the events that saw the German Empire sue for peace, depose the Kaiser, fight off threats from the KPD, and create a new Constitution to stabilize the Weimar Republic.

It's a sobering lesson in how quickly power, and the perception of power, vanished, leaving the Kaiser with no option but to step down. This book also shows how close the Communists came to taking over Berlin—if only they gave fewer speeches and focused on military leadership.

This is a new edition of the public domain book originally published in 1922.
This new edition includes:

  • a new Foreword written by the Publisher.
  • New footnotes added by the Publisher.
  • New layout, formatting, and typesetting.
  • The addition of several photos from the time period in Berlin.
Bulkington Book's mission is to build a bridge into the past, before film, television, copyright, and internet swallowed up the world. We found this story worthy of revival, and we hope you find it worth your while.
