The topics I explore may not be revolutionary—others have written about authenticity, self-doubt, and creative courage. But what makes this work meaningful is that it's filtered through my own experiences and the lessons I've learned along the way.
At its heart, this book is a collection of stories from a pivotal chapter in my life—one that chronicles how I learned to embrace an unexpected detour I never saw coming.
Through these stories, you'll see how I chose not to become a victim of circumstances but instead viewed my situation as an opportunity to grow, choosing to live from faith rather than fear. You'll discover how I kept showing up authentically and how that path led me exactly where I needed to be—to becoming the person I was always meant to be.
I've learned that it's good to map out a plan for your future, but do it in pencil. Life's detours may come as surprises, but those unexpected twists and turns can lead you down paths beyond anything you could have imagined for yourself.
I wrote The Detour: Who Am I Without That Job? as a companion for anyone who has ever felt lost after a major life change or wondered who you are without the role that once defined you. You're not alone in this journey, and these detours, though painful, are often gifts that redirect us from asking "Why is this happening to me?" to recognizing "This is happening for me."
