Synopsis

"What is it like to remember what you shouldn't, and to see through people even when they can't see themselves?"

Bella: Beyond the Bark is a dramatic novel based on the true story of a rescue dog adopted from the Orphans of the Storm shelter in Illinois. Told entirely in Bella’s voice, canine in form and deeply human in truth, the book filters reality through two distinct lenses: Bella's acute instincts and the complex social masks humans wear.

This is not a light pet story, and it is certainly not a fairy tale. Through Bella's eyes, the novel turns a mirror on human life, examining what it actually feels like to be abandoned, left behind, and forced to carry silence in an indifferent world. It strips away human pretenses to explore the raw weight of loneliness, the shelter system, and the quiet, painful process of learning to trust again after trauma.

Written for mature readers and thoughtful young adults, it is a story about survival, belonging, and the simple truth that the soul has no breed.

Cataloged by the Library of Congress (LCCN: 2025923760).

À propos des auteurs

Lana Stasek is an award-winning Ukrainian-born author and independent publisher based in the United States. Her work has been recognized by the 2026 Readers' Favorite International Book Awards. After arriving in the U.S. with two children and no English, she built a new life and business before turning to writing later in life. She is the creator of the Voices Within project, a series of independent works connected not by plot, but by recurring themes of identity, resilience, family patterns, memory, and the human cost of silence. Writing across memoir, literary nonfiction, and fiction inspired by real events, Stasek blends psychological observation with philosophical reflection to explore what is inherited, what is chosen, and how people adapt to the circumstances that shape them. Her work is grounded in lived experience and close observation of human behavior. With a direct voice and a sharp sense of humor, she writes about survival, reinvention, family history, and the stories people carry long after the events themselves have passed.

Vladyslava Borodavka immigrated to the United States at the age of eight and graduated from Loyola University Chicago in 2020. As the lead English adaptation editor for the Voices Within book series, she plays a vital role in shaping Lana Stasek's works with cultural nuance, emotional clarity, and linguistic precision. Her portfolio includes the English adaptations of Family Chronicles, Life Before and After, and Bella: Beyond the Bark. As a key creative collaborator, Vladyslava helps preserve the author's voice, psychological depth, and philosophical intent while ensuring the language feels natural and authentic to English-speaking readers.
