Synopsis

The Geometree turns math into magic, blending nature, imagination, and design.

One spring morning, curious young Mira discovers a mysterious tree unlike any she has seen before—the magical Geometree, a nearly extinct wonder with the power to create leaves in every imaginable shape. With each wish, Mira explores triangles, quadrilaterals, stars, snowflakes, and beyond, discovering the beauty of geometry all around her. Season after season, she and the Geometree turn math into magic, blending nature, imagination, and design. A lyrical celebration of creativity and curiosity, The Geometree invites readers to play with patterns, explore STEM concepts, and discover that they, too, can be shape-makers.

A propos du livre

À propos de l'auteur

Kelly Darke is a math educator dedicated to sharing the joy and wonder of math with children, parents, and teachers. For Kelly, learning math once meant performing algorithms and memorization-but her world expanded when she started working as a graduate student for the Connected Mathematics Project (CMP) at Michigan State University (MSU). CMP's inquiry-based middle school curriculum inspired Kelly to see mathematics in a new light-one full of deep connections, coherence, and sense-making. After graduating from MSU, Kelly studied to become a mathematics teacher educator at University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). She worked for two more K-8 curriculum projects and studied current research into math teaching and learning. After earning her Doctorate of Arts in Mathematics from UIC, Kelly taught mathematics to future K-12 teachers. After her youngest child was born, Kelly took a short haitus from teaching; however she continued to share her love of mathematics with her own children through picture books. Kelly started a blog sharing "math book magic" - stories that spark curiosity and delight for children. Kelly's blog, www.fairymathmother.com, soon grew to include math games, art projects and problems, in addition to reviews of magical books. The Geometree is her first picture book. She hopes that children, teachers and parents will find it magical. Kelly lives in Michigan with her husband and three children. She currently teaches middle school math and continues to spread math magic online through her blog and her social media accounts, X and Instagram: @kellydarkemath.
