Synopsis

Written with control and brevity, Torres' words move with emotional verve and precision as they set apart the day-to-day moments from haircuts to people-watching, breakfasts to family-time, and haunted houses to fall weather. Filled with repetitions and litany, questions and fragments, petitions and declaratives, in *Blessed are the Snakes*, Torres explores an imperfect world with love poems, desire, and hope. —Laura Madeline Wiseman, author of *People Like Cats* (Red Dashboard) Ryan Torres conveys meaning and gives life to objects in the vein of Williams. He also sees what Williams didn't, the shadows that surround the objects and that surround us all. This is a collection of poetry that you will return to again read the lines that haunt you. —Anthony Roberts, author of Pigtown
