This collection of award-winning stories, set in mid-century Florida, wend their way through the skirmish lines of small-town life to tell, with humor and warmth, the tale of how a pair of loners learn the ways of love. Welcome to a snapshot of America that mingles the authentic landscape, rich in quotidian detail, with a secret dreamscape just beneath the surface.

This collection includes winners of the 2025 and 2021 Rash Award in Fiction, the Thomas Wolfe Fiction Prize, the First Pages Prize, the Bumblebee Flash Fiction Award; runners-up in the Tusculum Review Fiction Prize and the Saturday Evening Post Great American Fiction Contest 2021 and 2023; and a finalist for The New Ohio Review Editors' Prize in Prose.
