Synopsis
Bronze Star recipient, Walter R. Smith gives us a new glimpse into service in WWII. The story takes us through Walter’s early years in an idyllic me in East Hampton, Long Island, New York to life in Boot Camps to deployment for the European Theater. Walter described f irsthand remembrances of bootlegging during the prohibi on, the depression years, Texas Boot Camps, to Grace and Germany. He was one of the first soldiers to witness the horrors of Dachau and a witness to the use of phosphorus which haunted him the rest of his life. Walter’s firs-hand account gives us a glimpse into the mind and heart of a soldier in “No man’s land” - the land between the warring na ons and pu ng it all behind him to move forward with life. Walter was an honorable, dignified, and professional man forged by the experiences of his genera on.
