People Are People: Signals from the Human Side of Systems explores what happens when technology, institutions, markets, and social systems evolve faster than the people living inside them.
Through stories of family, illness, recovery, work, creativity, identity, and everyday life, Jamil Hasan examines the human experience beneath an increasingly complex world. Drawing from personal experiences, cultural observations, and years of conversations with builders, creators, entrepreneurs, and ordinary people navigating extraordinary change, the book asks what remains constant when so much around us continues to accelerate.
Blending memoir with social reflection, People Are People moves beyond headlines, trends, and technologies to focus on the individuals who must adapt to them. Along the way, Hasan explores relationships, mortality, resilience, belonging, meaning, and the ordinary moments that often reveal life's deepest truths.
Each chapter takes its name from a familiar song, using music as a navigational marker through stories of family, recovery, work, illness, identity, and human connection.
At its heart, this is a book about people.
What happens to people when the systems around them change?
How do we remain human inside increasingly technological environments?
What do relationships, illness, recovery, family, work, identity, and creativity reveal about ourselves?
People Are People is an invitation to explore those questions—and the signals that emerge from the human side of systems.

Paperback. Etat : new. Paperback. What if the songs we carry with us are more than memories?Over the course of hundreds of conversations with entrepreneurs, creators, technologists, and everyday people, Jamil Hasan began to notice a pattern. The most important stories were rarely about success, failure, money, or innovation. They were about something far more fundamental: what it means to be human. In People Are People, Hasan uses iconic songs as navigational markers through a life shaped by family, friendship, recovery, illness, work, technology, and change. Each chapter takes its title from a familiar song, exploring the moments, memories, and lessons that connect individual experiences to larger questions about identity, resilience, continuity, and meaning.Part memoir, part cultural reflection, and part philosophical exploration, People Are People examines how people adapt when the systems around them change, and what remains when the noise fades away.Spanning childhood memories, parenthood, professional setbacks, health challenges, and unexpected moments of grace, the book invites readers to reflect on the soundtrack of their own lives and the people who helped shape them. For anyone who has ever found comfort in a song, searched for meaning during uncertain times, or wondered how the past continues to echo through the present, People Are People offers a thoughtful reminder that while the world changes, our shared humanity endures.
