Synopsis

Have you ever met someone so lazy that they didn’t care to leave their hammock all day? Red Toad's no-care lackadaisical attitude causes his fellow villagers to look down on him. "That Red Toad, he don't care," says one neighbor in countrified disgust. But Red Toad does volunteer to help when Toad Town is confronted with a beast. The beast terrorizes their town by stomping on houses and stores, leaving Toad Town reeling in destruction. Red Toad volunteers to help defeat this beast until he learns that she's really just an innocent 5-year-old girl named Elspeth. When the toads hatch a plot to defeat Elspeth, Red Toad takes matters into his own hands. Turns out Red Toad does care. This chapter book can be read aloud to younger children (Pre-K to 2nd grade) or read alone by 3rd graders and up. It's about a toad with no cares who learns to care about someone else other than himself. It's about learning to get along with others. It's about having your own opinion and not following the mob.
