Synopsis
Preparing to spend another Christmas alone, a selfish squirrel meets three wise trees who show him the consequences of his actions and how he must learn to change his greedy ways before it’s too late.
"You see, Squirrel cared only for his own nut hoard, so the troubles of his neighbours were always ignored."
Join a selfish red squirrel this Christmas Eve as he spends his time selfishly hoarding nuts, refusing to share with the woodland creatures around him, even for a grand Christmas feast. Despite the fact that other animals have scarcely anything to eat, Squirrel is only interested in keeping the nuts for himself. On a Christmas Eve walk he encounters the magic of three wise trees, who hope to teach him a valuable lesson in time for Christmas Day.
★★★★★ “A Christmas Squirrel was an easy to grasp re-telling of the classic with a lot of warmth, making it the perfect story for family reading this Christmas as the story was very joyful with a strong moral message.” – Children’s author and CBeebies presenter, Cerrie Burnell
★★★★★ “Mike’s story is magical and will delight families this Christmas, and I particularly like the food-sharing element of Mike’s re-telling. The tale’s link to the natural world is lovely. It is a great story of rhyme and reason.” – Taffy Thomas MBE, Britain’s first Storyteller laureate
★★★★★ “I was lucky enough to be part of the judging process as well as to illustrate the winning book and whilst the calibre of entries was wonderful, the story of a Christmas Squirrel is a perfect depiction of the meaning behind A Christmas Carol. I hope readers enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed illustrating it, and I look forward to reading it to my grandchildren this Christmas.” – Children’s illustrator, Ian Beck
