In January of 2011, on a dare, I began a diary of poetry in which each day's entry was another poem. For whatever reason, once I started, I never missed a day, and I've never stopped. The individual poems are simply small vortices through which swirl a sample of the mental events of that day, variously concerned with inner, sometimes outer, weather. The full sequence of these daily poems exists on a website, www.asleepingbird.asleepingbird.com, but I have here begun to select among them. This book contains a selection of eighty-five poems drawn from the more than two hundred that I composed through the Augusts of 2011-2017. Are they the best of that larger group? Perhaps. I selected them myself, and poets can be notoriously poor readers and judges of their own works. It would, of course, be a kindness if you were to read them and judge for yourself.
