He holds the distinguished title of professor emeritus of Christian Ministry at the American Baptist Seminary of the West and has been a professor at the Graduate Theological Union. He served as President of the Progressive National Baptist Convention. Dr. Smith Sr. continues to be a sought after national speaker.
