Bill Stevens directs the musicianship program at Santa Clara University. He is a founding member of Avivo, a collective of master educators dedicated to cultivating creativity through music teaching, and served on the faculty of The Walden School for twelve years. Stevens is the author of Jazz Musicianship: A Guidebook for Integrated Learning. He is a recipient of the prestigious Presidential Scholars Award and was a Level 1 Finalist with NFAA (now YoungArts) in music composition. An active pianist and improviser, he leads his own jazz trio and has performed as a guest soloist with the Silk Road Ensemble. Curious about the relationship between creativity, learning, and psychological process, Stevens studied psychotherapy with the Helix Training Program and is a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner.
