Synopsis

Silent Night, the cherished cradle-carol, might never have been written without the "help" of a mischievous young mouse! Come enter into the joy and whimsy of Christmas in this fanciful retelling of a true story--the misadventure that brought us one of the greatest Christmas songs of all time. In this delightful new tale, the charm of old Europe shines bright as candles through a frosty window. This is a story full of good humor and goodwill, that helps us to re-discover why it is that the most wonderful gift of all was given to humankind on the very first Christmas. For the good folks in the village of Oberndorf, high in the snow-wrapped Austrian alps, Christmas is excitingly near! But for the gentle and devout organist of St. Nicholas Church, Franz Gruber, getting ready for the Christmas Eve celebration has become a trial. The crackly-voiced soloist, Frau Haggelmeir, has become even more difficult than usual, the choir is far from ready....Poor Franz can only dream of the sweet heavenly music he hears in his heart. And no one is aware that Franz's little friend, Strauss Mouse, has his mischievous eye on all the last-minute bluster. To Strauss, Christmas means sweet-treats and gifts...and fun! When Frau Hagglemeir's awful high note strikes his ears, he decides it's time for the antics to begin. Just when it appears Strauss's misbehavior has undone everything, a wondrous miracle happens as hearts are gently opened by the Spirit of Christmas...which is Love. This is the inspiring lesson of Betsy Hernandez's and Donny Monk's story, written for the child who lives in everyone's heart: Love and peace are the true gifts of Christmas. As you enter into this frolicsome "mouse tale," you will be inspired again by the pure-shining joy of Christmas!
