This is a story of when "Fake News" was in its infancy. "Embedded With REMFs" is a Vietnam War novel, with military satire like that of "MASH", and the action of "Kelly's Heroes". Reporters Henry Baggs and Frank Ferguff went to Vietnam looking for a story. Foremost in their minds was producing articles free from Pentagon talking points and the biased opinions floating around most newsrooms. Interviews of the GIs in combat often conflicted with the sanitized fluff handed down by MACV information officers. Disillusioned by ticket-punching career officers putting lives at risk for publicity and the new breed of opinionated journalists, Baggs and Ferguff sought a story that reflected the human aspects of the war. What they found was a group of rear echelon office geeks and three beer guzzling truck drivers. Led by a Green Beret chaplain, these unlikely warriors pulled off an unauthorized rescue mission in the chaos of the Tet Offensive.
