J Margotta-Ferrara is the pen name of the husband-and-wife writing team of John Michael Margotta (who often wrote under the name John Ferrara) and Jenny Margotta. At the final one-man art show just before his death, John was asked to describe himself in a single sentence. His reply? “I’m a collector of experiences.” He collected more experiences than most. During his long and productive life he was a truck driver, soda jerk, roofer, deep sea diver, bartender, photographer (for over 60 years), cook, model, teacher, business owner, artist, and of course, writer. He was a combat veteran, serving with the U.S. Navy Seabees in the Pacific during World War II. “Don’t try to pin me down to writing in one genre,” John always admonished. “Don’t put me in a box.” During his long career, he published works in fantasy adventure, technical publications, short stories, erotica, philosophical musings, and poetry. Sadly, John passed away on August 2, 2012, leaving behind a body of work that includes over 40 short stories, two unfinished manuscripts of contemplation and human observation, numerous works of poetry and 10,000 negatives and photographic/computer-generated prints. He is missed by many. Jenny Margotta is a professional editor and published author. With over 30 years’ experience writing for business and pleasure, Jenny readily admits that writing and editing—all the aspects of using words to entertain and inform readers—are the things she most enjoys. She holds a B.A. in English/Language Arts and works extensively as an editor, fine-tuning other’s efforts. But she writes for herself too. She writes because it’s in her family’s genes and she is, she feels, her family’s storyteller for this generation. Her published works include telephony-related articles written during her years in the corporate world, the unique cookbook, Some Like It Hot, the Culinary Adventures of One Hot Momma and One Cool Dude and the novels Retribution and Resolution, all co-written with her late husband, and several short stories. She is currently working on The Woman in Room 23, a novel loosely based on her mother’ s life, whose last years were blighted by a losing battle against Alzheimer’s. Jenny continues to write under the pseudonym J Margotta-Ferrara in honor of John.
