Virginia Woolf's first novel. Rachel Vinrace was a wealthy young women in Edwardian London. Sailing on her father's ship to South America, her life becomes much more interesting as she encounters a cast of colorful characters satirizing societal stereotypes. The book also marks Woolf's first introduction of her character, Clarissa Dalloway.
