This is the story of two proud Midshipmen parents, Cassandra and Michael, and the sacrifices they made to provide an amazing future for their children. As the parents watch their daughter’s induction to the United States Naval Academy, they reminiscence on their surprising romance and the many challenges they faced as a young couple.
Depending on whether you ask Cassandra or Michael, their love story began at two very different times. Although they knew of each other in high school, a chance encounter led to one spectacular kiss and a shared life that would bless them in ways they couldn’t have predicted.
Not all of it was easy, as Cassandra and Michael recount. Michael is African American, Cassandra is Latina, and they illuminate the struggles they faced raising their two children, Alexes and Mikey, as the
Rodney King riots, 9/11, and the Iraq war serve as the backdrop. Through it all, they would face extreme discrimination but rise above it to give their children amazing opportunities and experiences.
