In 2005, Professor Mitry forecast a serious downturn for the real estate market to begin in 2007, which he believed would coincide with a financial crisis. Therefore, he sold all his real estate holdings at the top of the market, and decided to retire from fulltime teaching. Dr. Mitry was selected as a United States Fulbright Senior Scholar, and served as an “academic cultural ambassador” to Ukraine, Crimea, Belarus, Moldova and the republic of Transnistria,. Dr. Mitry believes that the search for truth must be the primary objective of higher education and the traditional university experience. He calls this the “Prime Equation” where: Truth = Reality = Accuracy = Legitimacy. As he says, “Everything else is at best only a conjecture and more often than not merely a belief in mystery or fantasy. While it is true that fantasy can be very entertaining, we should not live much of our lives by believing in illusions.” Professor Mitry has won awards for teaching, research, and publication. He has served as director, investigator, and consultant to many institutions, and a “fellow” of professional societies. He has published numerous articles in academic journals. His research has often involved global assessments, and he continues to research, write, and publish.
