Rebuilding the Temple examines the return of the ancient Israelites from their exile in Babylon and the process that ensued of rebuilding Solomon’s temple as a shadow and a type—a symbol—of what lies in store for God’s people who have been in exile in Babylon. This historical narrative found in the Old Testament scriptures is used as a “picture” of the return from spiritual exile that awaits those who have decided to be obedient to Christ with total abandon. Following an examination of the temple in Old Testament worship, the book examines the way in which the New Testament writers understood the temple—in particular the writings of the apostle Paul. The remainder of the book examines the many lessons that the temple rebuilding process has for our spiritual journey today.
