Synopsis

Malcolm Elder, a structural engineer, would rather be building things. After getting his degree in 1952 he enlisted for a three-year hitch in the Army Corps of Engineers. He wanted hands-on sweat equity experience in the field, not another academic degree for his resume. Back in civilian life he joined a prestigious consultancy firm, where he quickly earned a reputation for meticulous investigation and unflappable testimony, certain of his facts. This was a world of litigation and courtroom dramatics, some cases involving sabotage, fraud, and murder. The demand for Malcolm as an expert witness had him spending as much time in court as he was on construction sites. The NYPD called him in as a consultant. Now a serial killer has viciously killed a young college woman of Malcolm's acquaintance, tearing her college ring from her finger. This killing has struck much too close to home. This is personal. Malcolm and his soul-mate, Beth, have packed their bags. They're going on a road trip. Welcome to "Ritual."
