Synopsis

What if the Sorcerer's Apprentice raised bloodthirsty mummies instead of brooms?

Scholarship student Jyximus Faire wants to be a mage. But the pace at the Academy isn't fast enough for Jyx. He wants to learn everything – and he wants to learn it now.

Dreaded necromancer general Eufame Delsenza needs a new apprentice, and Jyx fits the bill. She tasks him with helping to resurrect royal mummies for an all-important procession, and the impatient student realises this might be a chance of a lifetime.

Will Jyx take his education into his own inexperienced hands? Can a necromancer's apprentice learn to raise the dead – and control them? And shouldn't you always read the instructions first before you try to follow them?

"I was really impressed by the skilful world building that creates so much sense of place and history so deftly in such a short book while not skimping on story or character. [...] It’s a very entertaining read – especially if you have a slightly dark sense of humour" - Nimue Brown, author of Hopeless Maine
