The ancients in scripture practiced a form of prayer that has been lost to our modern thinking. It shows up in scripture using phrases like “mighty prayer” and “cry unto the Lord”. This form of prayer doesn’t sound very pleasant. The simple fact of the matter is that the heavens are for the most part inaccessible to us without pain and suffering. Without experiencing brokenness we tend towards of state of complacency that closes the heavens. Maintaining the comfortable status quo is also to maintain a distance from the divine. We wonder why the heavens are so very silent. The reality is that the heavens are speaking but we cannot hear. We must lower ourselves in the depths of humility. We must place our pride on the altar and give it up. We must place our supposed learning and wisdom on the altar and give it up. We must place our riches on the altar and give it up. We must consider ourselves fools before God so that He can teach us. In this book we explore what the scriptures have to teach us about the ancient form of mighty prayer. This lost knowledge is absolutely essential to our success in the quest for the divine. God is waiting for us to come unto Him. Mighty prayer is the very thing that permits us to approach the throne of God and come to know Him (John 17:3).
