Nico Corretti is a soon-to-be-retired army captain who is ready to begin civilian life. But just a day beforehand, he meets a mysterious Russian woman who informs him that his safety is in jeopardy. Once home, Captain Corretti relishes the quality time with his family, but he soon discovers the limited employment opportunities in the years following the Great Recession. He undergoes an extended unemployment period before taking a government-contract position abroad, which turns out to be more perilous than he had been briefed. After the assignment, he enjoys a well-deserved respite; but it’s short-lived as a swell of terrorist attacks against the United States require more of his military service. He’s sent back to the Middle East, and in the process, he will try to avenge the soldiers he had lost under his command. But he’ll need to fight harder than he ever has before in order to succeed on the battlefield and in life.
