Synopsis

The interdisciplinary Peace as a Global Language (PGL) conference was conceived in the anxious year following the American terror attacks of 9/11, by teacher activists in Japan who wanted to emphasize peace in the face of disturbing world events. They envisioned a healing conference devoted to social awareness and education. PGL conferences have been held annually since 2002 in locations in Japan and Africa, and are attended by activists, aid professionals, academics, and students from around the world. These selected papers represent the results of their study and contemplation of the prospects for global peace.
