Synopsis

For a low-level thief living in Portland, Maine $300,000 is the score of a lifetime, but for Jackson Reynolds, the fate of a four year old kidnapping victim eclipses the potential windfall. After the 19 year-old high school drop-out discovers the money is ransom for the child, a moral obligation to save the girl lures him from his criminal pastime. Meanwhile, Dr. William Dennison, the perpetrator of the crime, finds himself on his own path of self-discovery. The visceral thrill of terrorizing others draws the psychologist away from a conventional lifestyle to follow more sinister pursuits. Given his thieving history, Jackson accepts that the Portland police don't trust him. He enlists the help of an independently minded barkeep, a wizened octogenarian, and a chauvinistic roommate, in hopes of rescuing the girl and exposing the psychologist turned killer. It's a high level chess match as the thief and psychologist square off, both men finding a comfortable fit in their new identities. Bucket List, the sequel to Second Chance, will be out in the coming year.
