Synopsis

To understand another's character, one must first possess the inclination. Such motivation is far from Elizabeth Bennet's mind when she first encounters Fitzwilliam Darcy. Like her friends and neighbours, she judges him superior, selfish and disagreeable and has as little as possible to do with him. Then he enlists her assistance in a matter personal to himself and she discovers his temperament is not as unfeeling as she believed. Fitzwilliam Darcy is principled and resolute in all things. Those within his circle benefit from his protection even if they do not all deserve it. A dark family secret binds him to an intolerable connection but to protect those closest to him, he must hide the truth even from the woman he loves. Secrecy casts doubt upon his character, suspicion fuelling misunderstanding, argument unavoidable. Can Darcy overcome his reticence and relieve Elizabeth of her doubts? Or are the reasons for his reserve too powerful to ignore? Join Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy as they learn just how much the past can bear on the future. Secrets and Suspicion is a Pride and Prejudice variation giving Jane Austen's characters a shared history that does not follow canon. It is suitable for all ages.
