Mary Troxclair Adamson (aka M. E. Robinson) was born in Austin, Texas, in the year of a grasshopper plague. Though she travels far and wide in the second half of her life, her roots are deep in the South. It was her grandfather Joe, a rough neck oil derrick man off the shores of Houma, whose night-time ‘Flim-Flam’ tales inspired Mary to carry on the story telling tradition with her children and their cousins. Swinging under the tresses of Spanish moss hanging from centurion live oaks, running up and down river levees and playing on plantation grounds are favorite childhood memories she holds of her home in Louisiana. Mary attended L.S.U. to major in rodeo and cowgirling and, after raising three wonderful children, she finished her B.A. in History with a minor in Psychology at Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas. Mary did her language studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and attained Cambridge’s certification to teach English to Adults (CELTA) while studying in Bournemouth, England. She chose her graduate school according to its proximity to Beatrix Potter’s home and was awarded an M.A. from the School of Language and Literature at the University of Central Lancashire, Preston, UK, in Writing for Children, where her research focused on archetypes in fairy tales and tales of religious texts.
