These are poems written by Mrs. Nellie Miles Paul, wife of Mr. Albert Mayhew Paul. She was a loyal member of the Washington, NC Tea and Topics Book Club which she joined in 1937 shortly after it was founded in 1936. The two poems in this little publication are the minutes in verse of two of the book club’s more spirited meetings that she captured during the meetings. These two poems are followed by one she wrote that has been applied on her behalf by this editor in response to a recent publication printing error. She wrote over 280 poems and a number of travel stories during her lifetime and nearly all were published in the Washington, North Carolina Washington Daily News and many were published in other North Carolina papers such as the Raleigh, North Carolina, Raleigh News and Observer and the Charlotte, North Carolina, The Charlotte Observer. Her handwritten manuscripts were given to this editor, the first grandson of Nellie Miles Paul, by her oldest daughter and his mother to preserve and hopefully pass on to future generations. This book is an attempt by this editor to comply with the wishes of his mother. It is also an effort of love for this beloved grandmother since she was such a positive influence in her first grandson’s life and through him her memory lives on. For those of you who did not know her you missed knowing a grand lady and a wonderful grandmother.
