Synopsis

Mary Malone, a single and recently unemployed teacher, finds herself subletting her brother's apartment with her widowed aunt while he, a private investigator, is out of town and takes on the case at the Bar X Ranch intended for him. Despite Mary's fear of horses since four-years-old, she tackles the task head-on with the help of Aunt Zoe, and Mrs. Grimshaw, a neighbor across the hall. Marlene Chabot, a semi-finalist in the 2016 Neoverse Writer’s Competition, has been writing mysteries since 1995. Her freelancing career for magazines, such as Her Voice, and other entities in her native state of Minnesota began in 2007. She has a B.S. degree in education, an A.A.S. business marketing degree, and a certificate from the Institute of Children’s Literature. Her other published writings include five novels—North Dakota Neighbor, Mayhem With a Capital M, Death At The Bar X Ranch, Death of the Naked Lady, Detecting the Fatal Connection as well as six short stories for these anthologies. A Visit from Santa, The Missing Groom, the Gulper Eel Lounge, The Scarf, Serving Up a Surprise, and More Than Lessons, and Dark Side of the Loon.
