This book began more than 35 years ago at the request of an amazing teacher. She saw more than the emotional teenager in her class and suggested that I begin keeping a journal where I could feel safe expressing my deepest hurts and my most joyous moments. Over the years, that journal has transformed into a collection of poems that conveys emotions nearly everyone has experienced. As you turn the heartfelt pages of my emotions, you will see that my life has not been all that different than yours. I have experienced the joy of finding true love and have been blessed with some of the best friends a person could have. I have also felt the profound loss of loved ones and struggled to overcome the darkness that inevitably follows. It is my sincere hope that these poems, even the simple poems of a young teenager, will offer you some comfort in knowing that each of us has difficult times where love seems an abstract, distant prospect. It was during my darkest times that I learned the most about the person I was becoming. May a smile grace your face when you read of the bountiful love and friendship I have encountered.
