Synopsis

Unit Plan Grades 5-9

English Language Arts - Social Studies - Health Education - Science

For Saskatchewan schools

This book is a companion guide for teachers to be used with the book "The Boy Who Walked Toward Home" by Edward Mirasty, Ph.D.

This unit is built around The Boy Who Walked Toward Home, an original story inspired by the life of Bobby Bird of the La Ronge area, a ten-year-old nêhiyaw (Cree) boy who ran from the Timber Bay School in October and did not survive the journey home. His remains were found thirty years later and identified through DNA matched to his mother's family. Bobby was real. He was ten. He was loved - and loving.
