Written by an experienced numeracy practitioner, this book aims to meet the numeracy needs, and improve the numeracy skills, of anyone not comfortable with numbers.Revised and extended for the 2018 edition, Making Britain Numerate is presented as a step by step guide, including contextualised examples and test questions at a range of levels, to make it easier for learners who struggle with numerical concepts. It is also designed as a practical guide and resource for numeracy tutors to support their learners within a range of teaching environments, including further education colleges, schools and work-based programmes. The ideas, methods and resources in this manual have been developed over a number of years whilst working successfully with learners in such environments. Kevin Norley, BSc PGCE MA, has been a teacher for over twenty years, having taught in schools, further education colleges and for work-based learning providers within the UK and also schools in Africa. His appreciation over time that many, many people are held back as a result of a lack of basic numeracy skills, and his understanding of how straightforward it could be to remedy this situation, served as the inspiration for this book.
