This book is a small, simple one that will help you dispel - Lost Confidence, Confusion, Lost self-esteem, and Fear. The coaching in this book has been developed over 25 years by Int'l skiing coach and instructor-tutor Bob Trueman. It is written for those recreational skiers who want to have a better skiing technique - not everybody does - but who have found it difficult to achieve. Skiers who want to have more control, in more conditions, on more slopes, with less anxiety. After ski school, which doesn't usually last long and doesn't usually achieve much you are left to your own devices. Finding a resource that really enables you to understand skiing, and find out exactly what to DO to really make it work is extremely difficult. Most folk just negotiate the mountain as well as they are able and hope for the best. This is the "practice makes perfect" idea which is simply wrong. It usually embeds poor skiing habits, because no one is helping with what to practise. Skiing companions often believe they are "helping", but if they're not trained in ski coaching they scarcely ever are. It often leads to finding yourself on slopes you wish you hadn't started. That in turn undermines your self confidence. More importantly it spoils your fun! What this skiing book does is to explain in very simple ideas and metaphors what small movements you need to make in order to take complete control of your skis. It clarifies HOW to make those movements. It gives you, in clear simple easily-understood ways, a complete PROCESS which you - any age, either gender, fearful or bold - can take with you to the slopes, and use to get more of what you want, and less of what you don't.The process avoids the "Gung-ho". It dispels inappropriate ideas like "edges" and "fall-lines", and sticks to reassuring actions that YOU can take and build into your everyday holiday experience. You will progressively become increasingly skillful, and not only feel (and indeed be) safer, you'll enjoy it all the more. You do not even have to wait until you go on holiday before doing practices! The book gives you a set of skiing "tools" that you can practise in the warmth, privacy, and comfort of your own home. Things you can do in front of your full length bedroom mirror that will make a HUGE difference for you when you get to the slopes. These practices are not complicated, and they are extremely powerful. They have been proven for over 25 years by members of the club for whom the author is coach. Club members range in age from late 20's to mid-70's. These "games" work for everyone. They are not physically challenging - you don't have to wear yourself out. You don't have to commit hours of your time - short more frequent practices are better. When you get onto the slopes, you will be far more comfortable with it all; you will already have built in some technical understanding and skill. It's almost like having an extra week of holiday because you've got a head start. You will UNDERSTAND skiing. This is a practical skiing book - things to do. It addresses some psychological and other needs, but less so than the author's previous book "Ski In Control" which covers more ground.
