A Coloured in Full Flight is about my painful journey sprinkled with bits of adolescent angst, emotional teenage encounters and laden by physical adult strife in the hard, sometimes cruel and unforgiving society.Started as a diary, it covers much of my past and certain events, episodes and characteristics I kept hidden from friends, family and colleagues. My childhood and adolescent years were riddled with varying and sometimes constant barrage of verbal, physical and inappropriate sexual behaviours. I grew to be a quiet, shy and insecure teenager, isolated and ostracised for being different, mocked for acting like a girl. No one saw the dark halo of low self-esteem and dented self-confidence. I was adept at masking much of my internal misery.Throughout life we meet people, some remain and become a close friend, while others move, becoming an acquaintance, a beautiful or perhaps some bad memory. Life and circumstances shape us into the adults we present to the world and those around us. My first book is about growing up poor, disadvantaged and bullied child in South Africa, during the time of much racial segregation and discrimination. Disconnected from the social issues we all faced, I felt threatened and alone, surrounded by those meant to lift and inspire me.If you never believed in guardian angels, A Coloured in Full Flight might change your perception. I am proof they do exist.
