Daniel Lainé has been a freelance photojournalist since 1980, including six months as staff reporter for Agence France Presse in Abidjan, Ivory Coast in 1985. In 1988, he won the Prix de la Villa Médicis Hors les Murs for a series of photographs of African kings, and in 1991 he was awarded first prize in the World Press Photographs "People in the News" category. With forewords by : Tobie Nathan is a professor of clinical and, pathological psychology at the University of Paris 8. Tobie Nathan founded France's first ethnopsychiatry service and has written thirty books, including several highly successful novels. Anne Stamm is an ethnologist. She lectures tiat the University of Paris and has written a, number of books on Africa. Pierre Saulnier is a priest and anthropologist. He spent twenty years in the Central African Republic, where he taught at the ü ; seminary university in Bangui. He has written several studies on Vodun.
