Synopsis
Figure incontournable de l’abstraction, Joan Mitchell (1925-1992) a trouvé une inspiration inépuisable en la présence de ses chiens. Compagnons fidèles l’accompagnant entre New York et Paris, en passant par sa propriété de Vétheuil, ils sont les seules âmes admises dans son studio lorsqu’elle y travaille. Parmi eux, Patou, un épagneul breton, et Iva, un berger allemand, ont été particulièrement importants, et nombre de ses tableaux portent le nom de ses chiens. Richement illustré d’œuvres de l’artiste et de photographies d’archives, cet ouvrage ouvre les portes de son intimité et laisse entrevoir son processus de création. Laura Morris, is Director of Archives and Research at the Joan Mitchell Foundation. Martin Bethenod has led numerous positions in the field of culture and contemporary art. He has been president of the Crédac-Centre d'art contemporain in Ivry since 2013 and president of the Archives de la Critique d'Art.
