Synopsis
This is the first of a multi-volume work planned to cover the vocabulary of genuine Manichaean texts recovered from Egypt, North Africa and Central Asia, as well as those citations of Manichaen texts found in the Church Fathers and in Islamic writers which are generally regarded by scholars as authentic. The first of the two main purposes of the 'Dictionary' is to help to locate the words in the texts. For scholars working in Manichaean texts theres is constant need to search for parallels for linguistic elucidation and for textual reconstruction. The second purpose is to assist all Manichaean scholars in the reading of the original texts with the provision of contextual meanings.
