Blindstamped hardcover binding. 176 pp. With 75 colored plates. 24 x 33 cm. French, German & English text. Fine copy. - First monograph by the Swiss photographer & visial artist Leo Fabrizio (1976-). The book is a photographic catalogue of hidden military infrastructure in Switzerland: bunkers built during the Cold War era, which were often camouflaged to resemble rural chalets, barns, or were embedded into alpine cliffs. These deceptive constructions - designed to blend seamlessly with the environment - are precisely what fascinated Fabrizio. His images reveal a surreal collision of military function and scenic beauty. Though methodical in their approach, Fabrizio's images avoid the rigid, repetitive style of the Bechers (Hilla and Bernd Becher), whose influence he acknowledges only in terms of discipline and dedication. Instead, Fabrizio's framing is tailored to each site: close-up studies for camouflaged structures, panoramic shots for isolated bunkers in dramatic terrain, and near-portrait treatments for the more eccentric or mysterious constructions. Leo Fabrizio's Bunkers is less a photojournalistic document than a meditative visual inventory. It underscores how photography can unveil what lies beneath appearances - literally and figuratively - without imposing meaning. The bunkers appear both out of place and perfectly at home, and this tension is where the book finds its quiet power. Condition : very good copy. ISBN 9782884740081.
