Synopsis

JEC Publications have just released a new and essential technical book for the whole composite industry called Composites Solutions: thermosets and thermoplastics (English, 217 pages, April 2006).

Every person interested in composite materials should see the latest technical book published by JEC as the best way to:
• Review the basics of composites materials (reinforcements, matrices, semi-products, …)
• Learn more about thermosets and thermoplastics composites, as well as sandwich construction, finishing processes, applications in different sectors, techno-economic data, recycling issues, and about the composite industry as a whole.

This richly illustrated book is designed to be a didactic work and contains about 300 diagrams and pictures to make the text immediately understood to engineers, technicians, and designers.

The reader will find an exhaustive state-of-the-art on thermosetting and short-fibre-reinforced thermoplastic composites. The book provides an in-depth analysis of thermoplastic composites reinforced with long or continuous fibres, which have developed rapidly since 2000 and are edging out thermosetting materials somewhat.

It also provides an overview of commonly used or more recent reinforcements, polymers, resins and, especially, prepreg semi-finished products. A major point of this work tool is a complete analysis of about fifty technologies that have been or are being used in the business.

It is meant to be pragmatic, to facilitate choice for decision-makers such as design/engineering departments and current or potential users. After all, these materials are of interest in a wide range of industries: automotive, railway, marine, electricity/electronics, building & construction, chemicals and textiles, sports and leisure, and more.

À propos de l'auteur

Maurice Reyne (eng. ENSAIS) worked as a research engineer in the aviation industry and then in oil research, before becoming the manager of an engineering consultancy firm. He is currently a self-employed consultant, a consultant to the French Ministry of Industry, and a lecturer in several different engineering schools.

Throughout his career, Mr. Reyne has acquired widespread practical industrial experience owing to these visits to some 1500 plants in about forty different countries, and particularly in the field of synthetic materials and the associated processes. He has written fifteen books for laymen on the subject an d trained over 5000 industrial managers. Here, he sums up his experience in the field of composites, giving a nearly exhaustive analysis of their converting processes.
