Main Fleurie, 2004. Cloth Box. Limited/Numbered. Large 4to. Edited and introduced by Ben Forkner, an authority on the life and writings of Audubon and a founding member of the Audubon Scientific Committee in France. The portfolio is composed of 244 loose pages. 48 illustrations with a text and additional 48 full page illustrations. Limited to 2265 copies on Main Fleurie paper, numbered 236 to 2500 presented in a olive green cloth-bound box. The texts from Audubon himself are chosen first to illustrate his approach of drawing in "My Style of Drawing Birds," and his daily life, through letters to his wife, Lucy, and one to John Bachmann, during his trips to Florida, to the Gulf of Mexico and to Labrador, while making his famous Birds of America. Printed on Main Fleurie paper made from new textile fibre, manufactured by Arches in the Vosges, specially for the book. Due to the slow cylinder rotation, the paper has a felt-like softness, very close to handmade paper.. .. . . . . . .. . . . . . .. .. . .. . . MAIN FLEURIE, 2004. Couverture rigide. État : Neuf. "From the beginning, my aims in this enterprise were clear and ambitious. I wanted first and foremost to do justice to the full artistic genius of Audubon, going back to his intial efforts, and yourthful experiments, and on through the complete mastering of his art in his middle years. thus I begin with several of his drawings recently discovered in the cellars of the Natural History Museum in La Rochelle, demonstrating the enormouse strides Audubon made very quickly in his career, and go on to include a number of his mature works from the great collection of the New York Historical Society. The texts chosen to accompany his art are here to illustrate the man behind the paintings." from the Acknowledgements by Pascal Jeanjean Publisher. This is a very large and heavy Portfolio, so shipping will be more than our standard rates, please inquire. As New! I removed the original shrink wrap from this book in order to get the information to list it online. ; Limited Edition; 11 1/2 x 15 ". N° de réf. du vendeur 50360
